Folder KS2 (Year 5 & Year 6)

Welcome to our Y5/6 class page.

Our topic is based on the story Kensuke’s Kingdom by Michael Morpurgo.

We are linking into our English lessons for writing opportunities, such as debates and newspaper articles about the rights and wrongs of a teenage boy sailing around the world.  We will also look at descriptive writing, diaries and perhaps some poetry towards the end, if time allows.

In our topic lessons, we have already produced artwork linked to the illustrations in the book, which are by an artist named Katsushika Hokusai – the learning objective for this was about colour mixing (there is a display in the main corridor if you want to take a photograph of it to add to the website.

We have also used the book to identify geographical locations using atlases and created travel brochures to ‘publicise’ information gained through research of the internet.

To come, we are looking at the following ideas:

DT- Design game made of natural materials that can be found on the island to entertain Michael. Design raft to escape, survival skills

Forest schools- survival/ building a fire, cooking

Geography- The lifestles of people living in different parts of the world: how people survive, hunting for food etc.

Science- living things, animals that live on the island, habitats. Adaptation- how they have adapted to survive.
