SEND (Special Educational Needs)

Welcome to the Bursley Academy SEND information page.

Bursley Academy is an inclusive, nurturing school and we strive to support all children to enable them to achieve at school their full potential as we guide them through their learning journey. Quality first teaching is vital; however, for some children there are occasions when further additional support may be needed to help them achieve their learning goals. We have high expectations of all our children and do whatever we can to support the children to achieve their goals.

These pages set out information about our provision for children and young people with special educational needs (SEN).

  • Communication and interaction needs; this includes children who have speech language and communication difficulties including autistic spectrum conditions.
  • Cognition and Learning needs; this includes children who have learning difficulties and specific learning difficulties like dyslexia, dyspraxia and dyscalculia.
  • Social, Emotional and Mental Health needs.
  • Sensory and/or Physical needs; this includes children who have visual or hearing needs, or a physical disability that affects their learning.

The school is very proud of the fact that it has been awarded Dyslexia Friendly full status. The award recognises that the school provides good practice in teaching and learning across the school to support all children’s learning and the specific support provided for children who have difficulties with aspects of reading, writing or spelling and in overcoming literacy difficulties.
