Year 3

Welcome to the Year 3 page.
We are so excited to start our learning journey together this year! Here you will find lots of information about our classes, the things we have been doing and ideas to help you with your learning. You will find links to our Curriculum Overview and our Crucial Knowledge. If you have any questions or concerns, please don’t hesitate to contact us.
Children in year 3 enjoy learning an array of different subjects using different teaching styles, where the aim is always to learn and embed our crucial knowledge and apply this knowledge in different ways across the curriculum. The children use their heads, hearts and hands to embed and apply this crucial knowledge and support their learning. Children have the opportunity to work in many different ways such as: working in teams; experiencing trips; using technology; using the outdoors and engaging in discovery-based learning. By the end of year 3, we hope the children will have a deep love of learning, have gained independence and developed their sense of self in a fun, nurturing environment.
Physical Education: PE will take place every Monday & Wednesday for Mrs Moruzzi and Mr Langston’s class and every Monday & Thursday for Miss Birks' class. The children need to come to school in their PE kits on these days and it can be worn all day (no need for changing). Hair must be tied back and all jewellery must be removed at home.
PE kit: plain navy/ black jogging bottoms, leggings or shorts (no zips/logos), a plain white top (polo or t-shirt) or a Bursley top. A plain navy/black zip or pullover jumper or a Bursley hoodie. Please ensure that children have plain trainers or pumps (black, white, grey or navy). As PE sessions may take place outside, jumpers and tracksuit bottoms will also be needed.
Reading: Reading books and diaries need to be in school every day, as the children can be asked to read with an adult at any time during the week. Children are asked to read 3 x per week and parents are encouraged to listen to them and sign their diaries. Reading diaries will be checked once a week. Both classes will change their reading books and have their diaries checked on a Wednesday.
Homework: Each week, children are expected to carry out the following tasks below in their homework book:
- Practise their times tables in a variety of ways (in their homework books or on TT Rockstars).
- Learn the spelling pattern they are doing in class and practise their spellings.
-Complete a Maths activity which may be to do with children’s learning during their Maths lessons.
Homework will be set each Thursday to be returned by the following Wednesday (unless circumstances within school mean that a change is necessary).
