Meet the Team
Miss Rushton - I have been a teacher at Bursley for just over seven years now. I am the P.E coordinator, club coordinator and healthy school lead for the school.
Miss Ball
Mrs Gumbley – I have been a teaching assistant at Bursley for around 16 years in KS2 – too many to keep count of! I support children in lessons and also in interventions in small groups.
Children in years 4 enjoy learning an array of different subjects using different teaching styles, where the aim is always to learn and embed our crucial knowledge and apply this knowledge in different ways across the curriculum. The children use their heads, hearts and hands to embed and apply this crucial knowledge and support their learning. Children have the opportunity to work in many different ways such as: working in teams; experiencing trips; using technology; using the outdoors and engaging in discovery-based learning. By the end of LKS2, we hope the children will have a deep love of learning, have gained independence and developed their sense of self in a fun, nurturing environment.
Physical Education: Year 4s go swimming at Chesterton Community Sports College on a Monday and also have P.E on a Thursday. The children need to come to school in their PE kits on these days and it can be worn all day (no need for changing). Hair must be tied back and all jewellery must be removed at home.
PE kit: plain jogging bottoms (no zips/logos) or shorts and a plain white. Please ensure that children have trainers. As PE sessions may take place outside, jumpers and tracksuits bottoms will also be needed.
Reading: Reading books and diaries need to be in school every day, as the children can be asked to read with an adult at any time during the week. Children are asked to read 3 x per week and parents are encouraged to listen to them and sign their diaries. Reading diaries will be checked once a week. If your child has not read 3 x in a week then they will be expected to read with an adult at lunch time or play time.
Homework: Each week, children are expected to carry out the following tasks below in their learning log:
- Complete a different VIPERS style reading task from the menu, which will be sent home in their learning logs.
- Practise their times tables in a variety of ways.
- Learn the spelling pattern they are doing in class and practise their spellings.
- Additionally, they may wish to complete one of the optional tasks which are linked to their foundation learning.
