At Bursley Academy, high academic standards and expectations are important for all our children as we want our children to be prepared for the future. We believe that when children leave us they go to high school with the skills they need to reach their potential academically, socially and emotionally. They go as well rounded individuals who have the ability to thrive in high school.
We strive to provide the widest range of opportunities possible for our children, to give them experiences, to allow them to find their talents, their voices, to help them find out who they are now and to unlock their potential so they can see who they could be.

We are very proud of our Year 6 pupils, who worked incredibly hard this year. On this page you'll find the results we are required to publish, followed by some of the many successes we are celebrating across the school.

Celebrating our successes
Our disadvantaged pupils are achieving well
In maths, 73% of our disadvantaged pupils met the expected standard, compared with 62% of disadvantaged pupils nationally. In writing, 64% met it (national 60%). The proportion meeting the expected standard in reading, writing and maths combined rose from 38% to 45%.
More pupils reaching the higher standard
The proportion achieving the higher standard in reading, writing and maths combined more than doubled, from 2% to 5%. Greater depth in writing rose from 4% to 7%, and in reading from 24% to 26%. In writing, 72% met the expected standard, in line with the national average of 73%.
Pupils with SEND achieving above national
Our pupils with special educational needs did better than pupils with SEND nationally. 27% met the expected standard in reading, writing and maths combined (national 26%). In reading, 45% met it (national 42%), and in writing 36% (national 32%).
Outstanding phonics
By the end of Year 2, 93% of pupils had met the phonics standard, up from 60% last year. In Year 1, almost 9 in 10 pupils (90%) passed the phonics screening check, including every one of our girls.
A strong start in Reception
79% of our Reception children reached a good level of development. 86% of our disadvantaged children reached a good level of development, up from 50% last year.
Times tables improving
In the Year 4 multiplication tables check, the average score rose from 20.1 to 20.9 out of 25.
About our Year 6 group
Our Year 6 group had 43 pupils, so each child counts for just over 2 percentage points. Almost a quarter of the group (23%) were eligible for Pupil Premium, and around a quarter had special educational needs. Nearly all of our pupils (98%) were with us throughout Years 5 and 6.
Looking ahead
Over the coming year we will build on our strengths in phonics, early years and writing. Our priorities are to raise attainment in reading and maths at Key Stage 2 and to help more pupils reach the higher standard.
